A cracking two days with Fiona and Stewart Souter from Perth who won our weekend, worth nearly £600 in the Scotland Outdoors magazine competition. They stayed at Torridon SYHA hostel for the weekend. As well as a day hill walking and a day trail biking they also sampled some of the great places to eat in the area having dinner at The Torridon Inn on Saturday and a tasty lunch at Nanny’s Cafe in Shieldaig before heading home.
Given the forecast and the request for an exploratory hill day, rather than Munro bashing I guided Fiona and Stewart up the ridge of Beinn na h-Eglaise. So many of the smaller hills on the south side of the glen are overlooked but this is one wee peak that is well worth the effort; especially for the views to the east. The weather was quite changeable so I was very glad to be wearing my new Armadillomerino top!
Over the years Scotland Outdoors magazine has been supportive and encouraging of the activities we offer at nineonesix-guiding. German clients of ours have featured as ‘cover stars’ in a winter ascent of Beinn Eighe. One of the participants on our flagship SYHA Torridon Winter Skills courses wrote about her experiences on the course and we’ve also offered two days of scrambling and rock climbing here in Torridon as a prize. For more details of these activities and how to book on them please visit our website.
Thanks again to Fiona and Stewart for their kind words below:
‘A massive thanks to Jim for a fantastic weekend of activities in Torridon. Beinn na h-Eglaise was great fun and your patience during trail biking was much appreciated! We both had a great time. Certain we will be back for more. Thanks again.’
