Sam and Jamie, from Oxford University had heard about nineonesix-guiding from a friend at Cambridge University which was quite a coincidence as Iain had just been guiding some students from Cambridge University last week in Lochaber.
The lads put in a tremendous effort to get to Torridon, travelling up by sleeper to Achnashellach and then walking through to Annat and eventually the SYHA hostel in Torridon.
After some discussion of aims and objectives it was decided to visit Beinn Eighe to do some winter skills and summit their first winter Munro. Conditions were clagged in, but not too challenging – just wintery. Day two turned out to be a cracker; in fact Sam and Jamie both said their traverse of Beinn Alligin (see above photo) was one of their best hill days… so far. Beinn Alligin must be one of the top ten ‘coffee table book’ peaks in Scotland?
We look forward to seeing you both here again next winter with some fellow students for a winter meet perhaps. Well done for your spirits, skills and relaxed approach.
