This was the seventh year that nineonesix-guiding and University of Stirling have worked together to provide a winter meet. On Monday twenty two students, plus five Leaders and Instructors from nineonesix-guiding were on the hill. Luke took his group on an exciting traverse of Coire Laoigh Mor ; while Dunc & Iain made a spectacular traverse of the Glen Feshie Munros, Nathan took his group up Fiachaill Ridge for a round of Coire an t-Sneachda and Jim was climbing on Twin Ribs. The weather provided challenges as well as beautiful Brocken Spectres on a day of contrast. Once safely back at Lagganlia everybody had fun sharing their stories from their hill day. On our second day we were joined by Cormac from Mountain Rescue Ireland to make this a truly international gathering. The forecast was more windy so all of the teams stayed pretty low on the hill. Dunc’s team confirmed a build up of windslab on the east facing slopes of Fiachaill Ridge whilst the rest of us headed into Coire na Ciste. Navigation practice, more winter skills movement and snow belays were practiced, as well as further climbing. All of us here at nineonesix-guiding would like to thank Clare, Calum and the rest of University of Stirling for their care, good humour and spirits on yet another successful winter meet. Here’s to more great climbs and hill days in 2015. Blog by Jim Sutherland nineonesix-guiding More photos at nineonesix-guiding on Flickr.
