rock climbing, multi-pitch techniques and winter shakedown…

On Sunday return client Malcolm had hoped to take The Seaflower from Shieldaig and spend the day with some guided rock climbing on Creag Alligin overlooking Loch Torridon. Unfortunately gale force southerlies put paid to this and this fantastic trip will have to wait, here is a link to a previous trip across to Creag Alligin http://vimeo.com/15832861

So Malcolm and I had a discussion about alternative objectives and with winter fast approaching I thought that looking at multi-pitch techniques and a bit of a winter shakedown would be a good idea.

During the course of the day Malcolm got to lead three pitches of trad rock at Ardheshlaig for the first time; practice the skills for a personal abseil; scramble in big boots with a rucksack (the winter shakedown!) and then finally make a multi-pitch abseil descent of the crag.

All in all we had a great day despite the blustery conditions, Malcolm has planned some more winter adventures for himself … and Tara!

I had a fun day as well seeing first hand how his skills and confidence have developed over the summer – perhaps it was something to do with our week in Mallorca?
