Western Route, IV, 6 – Coire an Lochain.

At the weekend one of our clients asked ‘Have you guys got any adventures planned..?’ On Sunday Jim, Nathan and Ian from nineonesix-guiding climbed on Western Route, IV, 6 in Coire an Lochain. A Tom Patey route so it was bound to provide adventure! We were not disappointed. This route had everything : a rising traverse for Jim to commit to on pitch 1, a technical wall on pitch 2 for Ian and sustained route-find on on pitch 3 for Nathan.

  1. This used to be called one of the best mountaineering routes in the Corrie, I did it over 30 years ago it was grade 3 – It was desperate for a poor climber. I was with a great friend Al MacCleod who was killed soling the North Face of the Matterhorn. Thanks for that piece it brought back some great memories, few climb that route but what a climb Western Route a classic – Patey was the man..
