another blog from Dunc on SYHA winter skills

Two weeks after his guiding day on the CMD arete Dunc was instructing winter skills on another of our SYHA activity holidays. Here is his blog…

Heavy snow didn’t stop Josh Iain and Rob getting to grips with winter skill in Coire an t-Sneachda. We waded through deep drifts but were lucky to find the area below the Mess of Pottage which was well scoured and perfect for ice axe breaking and crampon practice. We ended our day by building some emergency shelters in the moraine fields, The walk out was even more tiring than the walk in due to the heavy snowfall that afternoon , the ski road was closed at 1pm.
