Moran Mountaineering New Year Course – Beinn Alligin

Amanda in Coir' nan Laoigh working on her crampon and axe technique.

Today Martin and I took our groups onto Beinn Alligin.  Vanessa, Jane, Charlotte and Graham were guided by Martin on the full traverse over ‘The Horns’ and two Munros.  My group had Sarah returning plus Josh and Amanada who wanted a slightly easier day with the opportunity of some more instruction.  On the scramble up the South Rim of Coir’ nan Laoigh I coached the three of them on moving over mixed ground and becoming more independent.  Once on the plateau we navigated to the bealach and then the Munro – Tom na Gruagaich.  Lots of cramponing on the way down and even the chance to use some steep snow/ice in the corrie to consolidate technique.

Martin’s group completed the traverse in good time, having encountered challenging conditions with some verglas on The Horns.
