Ricicles VS 4c at Ravens Crag, Gairloch
This morning I went climbing at Ravens Crag, Gairloch with my two friends Andy & Dunc. Andy, at Gairloch High School has an indoor climbing assessment next week and Dunc, who also works with nineonesix-guiding is preparing for his SPA. A bit of local knowledge and experience was used to choose this great crag – we had a breeze to keep away the midges and it faced away from the showers long enough for us to get stuff done! After lunch Dunc and I had a quick blast round the trails at Flowerdale behind The Old Inn, Gairloch.

The final day of our week in Torridon turned into an absolute cracker! Beinn Alligin loomed above us in the mist, as we set off. It continued to hold, giving the Horns of Alligin a very atmospheric feel. The Highland midgies came out in full force today (a trip to the highlands would not be complete without them!), but we managed to find a breezy spot on the summit of Sgurr Mhor, to enjoy a spot of lunch. As we climbed to the summit of Tom na Gruagaich, the cloud lifted and rewarded us with fantastic clear views. The cloud remained high for the remainder of the day, which made for a magical finish.
It has been an incredible, action packed week with some lovely company. Well done to Anne-Marie, Jack, Sean and Gill.

A wee change in the weather today, brought a few light showers and when the breeze died down we finally experienced the Torridon Midgies! It didn’t spoil the day though, the clients enjoyed turning their hand to a wee bit of ropework with lovely views over Sheildaig.

I’m in danger of sounding like a broken record, but we had another amazing day. A whole day spent in shorts and t-shirt, is this really Scotland? Today we walked into beautiful Coire Mhic Fhearchair and we were rewarded with a spectacular view of Triple Buttress, whilst enjoying some lunch. We took the exciting route out of the coire enjoying a scramble onto Coinneach Mhor with amazing views over to Liathach and beyond. The scenery became even better when we reached the summit of Ruadh-stac Mor, the high point of the day. On the return journey the sun continued to shine all the way, Torridon at it’s finest!

Today Liathach felt like a mountain in the South of Spain, we had wall to wall sunshine and extremely dry conditions on top. Another fantastic day enjoying the warm rock over the Pinnacles, with spectacular views out to the Outer Hebrides and all the way down to Ben Nevis. It looks like tomorrow is going to be very similar – fantastic!

A fantastic first day of our five day course covering the Torridon hills. Light winds, sunshine and no midgies made for a perfect combination. We experienced dry, grippy rock and some lovely scrambling en route to the summit of Spidean Coire nan Clach. And with such amazing visability and conditions, we added in Sgurr Ban to take in the spectacular views over the Black Carls (Bodaich Dubh). Looking forward to tomorrow, another great forcast predicted.

Jim climbing at Creag Bheag, Golspie.
A wee bit wet on the West today so Dunc and I agreed to head to Golspie for some mountain biking and bolt clipping. This is a combination that nineonesix-guiding have started to offer this summer. We did two laps of the red route at the Wildcat Trails with the weather just getting better and better through the morning. After lunch it had dried up enough to head to The Mound for a couple of routes before heading home. Dunc and I both agreed that this could a varied and exciting day out for our clients so we look forward to hearing from you…

John heading out on a Kona Lava Dome!
Today I had the pleasure of guiding John on Maoile Lunndaidh 1007m, Sgurr a Chaorachain 1053m and Sgurr Choinnich 999m. We used mountain bikes to get close and then traversed them from east to west. On the way up we hit cloud at 800m. This provided a great chance to talk about pacing, following a bearing from point to point and interpretation of the terrain we can see. A fantastic day with great views, 3 new Munros for use both and good company. The descent on the bikes back to Craig almost felt like cheating! Check out the nineonesix-guiding website for more pictures and movies.

high on the Beinn Alligin ridge
Today Claire asked me to guide her and Siobhan & Elizabeth on the traverse of Beinn Alligin, surely one of the top ten mountains in Scotland? We enjoyed good company, cooling winds and fantastic views on the mountain. Well done to Claire for finally getting to grips on the Horns of Alligin and to Elizabeth & Siobhan for their patience and support during the day.
